Application Instructions

Applying for the First Gen Leadership Award involves an online application and an in-person interview:

The online application must be completed by January 14 and consists of basic contact information like your name, address, phone number and an essay portion.
The on-campus interview will take place during Celebrate Scholars Day on January 23, 2027.

Application Requirements

Before applying for the First Gen Leadership Award, you must apply for admission to Goshen College.
After you submit your First Gen Leadership Award application, please have your high school transcript and test scores (optional this year) sent to the Admissions Office in order to confirm eligibility for this scholarship.
Achievement scholarships are awarded to first-year domestic students.

Core Values
At Goshen College we intend to create a community of faith and learning built on five core values: Christ-centeredness, passionate learning, servant leadership, compassionate peacemaking, and global citizenship. After reading through our core value definitions, you are to pick one of the five core values. Your essay should answer the question, “What does this core value mean to me?” Give one or two specific examples of what that core value means in your life. (350 word maximum)

On Campus Interview

The on-campus interview will be conducted by faculty at Celebrate Scholars Day, January 23, 2027. The interview will last for approximately 10 minutes. All candidates are required to complete the interview process. If candidates are unable to attend Celebrate Scholars Day in person, they will be required to register for an alternative interview process. More details on the event registration page. Both in-person and the alternate process requires the student to answer questions based on a certain scenario. The interview scenario and potential questions will be emailed upon registration.
